Planning your rock climbing outing?

We'd love to have you be as informed as possible so you can make the best decision on the what, who, where, when and how.

What should I know?

You'd be surprised that most people actually aren't too sure what they should be expecting when they are thinking of a rock climbing outing. We want to give you the low down and have you both physically and mentally prepared so that you can enjoy the experience as best as possible!

How fit do I need to be?

Great question! And no, you don't have to be able to do a pull up in order to do climbing. We have heard this question more than a million times (we kid you not) from not only our non-climbing friends, but people who drop by the gym to take a look and then walk away feeling disappointed because they can't yet do a pull up and so climbing is not a sport they can try.

Okay, now that we've gotten that out of the way, we really expect someone who is physically able to walk, climb the stairs, lift some paper documents, and move like any other person. That's it. Really.

What should I wear?

We'd love to say any comfortable sportswear, but we've noticed that there are a lot of fashionistas who frequent our gym and taking a ton of Instagram shots. Of course, we don't expect you to be strutting the runway when you come in, so really, just be dressed in pants / leggings that cover past the knee caps, and a top that is not restrictive. Anything else that you'd like to accessorize yourself with, keep it for when you are done climbing. We highly advise climbers not to wear any watches, necklaces, rings, etc. Just be mindful that the gym is air-conditioned, so it can get a bit too cool for comfort when you are not climbing.

What should I bring?

Yourself! And... a pair of socks if you don't have your own climbing shoes. We'll sort the rest out for you. Definitely bring a water bottle as well to keep yourself hydrated, there is a water cooler in the gym. Of course, if you'd like to buy some drinks or snacks, some cash / credit card will be much needed (unless our staff decides to treat you to a cuppa coffee then you can count your blessings that day!).

Anything else?

We cannot stress this enough, come in with an open mind if this is your first time. Listen to our Boulder Movement Guides in the gym, they are there to ensure that you are safe while climbing, and have a boatload of fun as well. Otherwise, you're pretty much ready to take the next step and come on by.

Are you excited to climb? We definitely are excited to have you get started. Connect with a Boulder Movement Guide today to get your team set up.
